Missing Link

Oval Enterprise / Missing Link
Headquarters: (Oval Enterprise) London, England
Marque First Established: (CF) 2008
World Championships: none...

Corporate Profile:
Oval Enterprise is the multinational conglomerate that owns the Cyber Formula team Missing Link as well as the F1 team Yuuma Missing Link. While headquarters are in London, Oval Enterprise maintains strong ties to Russia; it actively hires Russian staff and has several locations in the country. This is due to the fact that the fall of Communism in the USSR and Eastern Europe gave the original company, a small family-run affair, its chance to expand by buying up former state-owned businesses. As a result, Oval Enterprise got its fingers into almost every pie imaginable--including weapons development and other military technologies.

Oval Enterprise's endeavours in this area were kept quiet by top management, but after the events that led to Hiroyuki Kazami's murder and the spectacularly unsuccessful pursuit of Asurada, there was some significant personnel turnover. As a result, its evil corporation days appear to be long past. Although it was the Missing Link team that helped get Oval Enterprise into that mess, it continues to maintain its racing effort for reasons of technology development and publicity. Apparently, nothing boosts corporate image like a Grim Reaper logo.

Team Profile:
Missing Link first hit the scene in 2008, with engines from Xi and a chassis from Köln. It's been mostly mediocre going ever since, but this is still the team that (in both its F1 and Cyber Formula incarnations) shaped the careers of Hiroyuki Kazami, Masaki Nagumo, Clair Fortlan, and Osamu Sugo, not to mention Edelhi Bootsvorz. Bootsvorz in particular is part of Missing Link's Russian connection; even though the team is technically British, it continuously maintained Russian drivers from 2008 to 2022 and its test track is in Odessa.

Bootsvorz and Osamu first encountered each other at Yuuma Missing Link; that's also where Osamu and Clair met. Clair, Hiroyuki, and Masaki were all members of Missing Link's technical development team, which made for one of the greatest assemblages of technical talent anywhere. It was while on this team that Hiroyuki and Masaki had a crucial difference of opinion, eventually resulting in the creation of the Asurada and Alzard/Ouga series of cars. So, basically, almost all the key events in the Cyber Formula anime can be traced back to Missing Link.

The first of the team's 3 main Russian drivers was Niklovich Kerensky [Nikorabitchi Kerensukii], who placed as high as 4th overall before being replaced in 2012 by Samonovich Varga [Samoinobitchi Baruga], whose highest placing was also 4th in the final standings. In 2015 Bootsvorz became the team's driver, although he was there because he'd been recruited by Charles B. Smith to take out Asurada. Charles B. Smith was, in turn, after Asurada because Oval Enterprise wanted the car's cyber system technologies for military applications; fearing just such an outcome, Hiroyuki Kazami had kept the car hidden away. But in the end, Smith died, peace was restored to the land, and Bootsvorz kept on driving.

During his time with Missing Link, Bootsvorz's highest placing was--are you ready?--4th in the final championship points. In 2020, the first time 2-car teams were allowed, NASCAR racer Leon Earnhardt joined the effort. He wasn't very good at staying on the road, though. Bootsvorz and Henri Claytor swapped positions for 2023, which means that Missing Link--a team which probably can ill afford to keep rebuilding machines--now boasts what is probably the most crash-prone driver line-up around. It's probably only a matter of time before the teammates start purposefully punting each other off the track.
